Let’s meet some members of the squad!

image

Rifleman

"You’re gonna be a sad story on my hide, boy.”

Weapon: M4

Growing up with a father whose obsessions were hunting and discipline (in that order), Reload had little choice but to listen and learn as he was taught how to handle a firearm and shoot it with freakish accuracy. The experience proved to be immensely useful in the army, where he set an all-time record for field stripping an M16A1 in 15 seconds – the origin of his nickname. His time in the service Is recorded on his person in the shape of several hundred tattoos, but there’s still space for a few more additions now that the Collectables have come calling – even though he superstitiously believes the diminishing space for new body art indicates the imminent end of his life…

image

Rifleman

"’til it goes click.”

Weapon: G36KV

BARRAGE likes to keep his bullet consumption on par with his “date-per-day” rate. That’s a lot of bullets. No mission sees him without a perfect million dollar smile and the cleanest of shaves. Not that his tendency towards vanity distracts him from the task in hand – Barrage is as particular about making the enemy look bad as he is about looking good. Probably the only merc who makes heads turn with a rich fragrance even in the darkest hellholes of our planet.

image

Engineer

“I want to play a game.”

Weapon: MP5

TRONIC is Double’s older brother. Inheriting a fairground funhouse at the age of 14 is one of the best things that can happen to a kid. Especially if you have a keen interest for all things electric, and you’re a fan of horror movies. When Tronic’s newly-christened “Terror Tomb” reopened, visitors could only enter at their own risk. Over time, his fascination evolved into something more twisted and dangerous, and he soon found himself assisting the development of the first unmanned drones and intelligent traps for the army. His thesis was a live test, having to arm a whole forest around a pack of insurgents, and it was a devastating success. The Collectables couldn’t say no.

image

Medic

“This won’t hurt – me.”

Weapon: G36C

SENSEI is a former university dean. He realized at the age of 65 that teaching spoiled rich kids about frog dissection was not his ultimate goal, and being a celebrated sportsman and world-renowned doctor, he met the standards required to join the Collectables. He’s the most experienced veteran medic in the whole regiment, and is duly respected for it. About half of the Collectables owe him their lives, and the other half inevitably will sometime soon.

Q&A with Monster Match Producer

Monster Match is a colorful action-puzzle game where players battle and build their own teams of vibrant monsters! The game’s Producer, Roger Royce, recently took some time to answer important questions from Monster Match players. Enjoy this exclusive Q&A!

image

Will you re-run events? Are you planning more non-event activities?

Over the past year, we’ve re-run a few events that first went live when Monster Match was initially released in limited countries. These were “The Light of Ra” and “The Reign of Fenrir” events. One factor for not re-running more events is because we have the rare “problem” of too much content, thanks to our amazing art and game design teams. Also, we’re just as obsessed as our players with making sure to fill in those remaining “?” slots in the Monster Catalogue ;)

Although we get new players every day, Monster Match has a loyal fan base that includes some players that have been with us since launch! We hesitate re-running too many old events because we want to please both longtime fans and new players without alienating those who have been most loyal. If you’re solely looking to obtain monsters from previous events, your current, best option is the Limited Summon and Heaven’s Fortune Gates. In fact, we’re in the midst of a tuning effort to increase the odds of discovering previous event monsters more frequently at the Gates as part of our 1-year anniversary celebration.

Regarding adding more non-event activities, we recently released the Mirror Islands, also known as the “Skill Islands,” which challenges players to assemble strategic monster team/skill combinations to neutralize challenging enemy waves. With each new release, the Monster Match team is committed to both improving the game experience and also adding new features.

image

Have you thought about tweaking the events to a tier based format? It would be nice if it was based by level, every 20 or so, so lower levels have a chance to compete with the guys who have 100 stamina etc.

Yes! We’re aware that the gap between new and longtime players is growing and some of the same names keep appearing at the top of the event leaderboards. That said, no matter how long you’ve been playing the game, it still takes a lot of devotion and stage completions to rank in the top 100 of an event every week. I applaud those fans whose names I’ve come to recognize!

“Tiered event groupings” is in our feature backlog but is not part of the next release that we’re currently working on. But as you’ve seen in recent updates, we listen to our players as best we can, like how we addressed the issue of prism monster drop rates by introducing the Mirror Islands. Not every request can be addressed but your feedback is always heard and it influences our priorities.

Are there any plans to change the order in which monsters attack for optimal effectiveness against multiple monsters in a round. For example, if 2 of my monsters will attack, 1 with the power to finish off an enemy with one hit, and the other monster with only a small amount of power, can the game guarantee that the stronger monster will go first, so that the weaker monster can then do a bit of damage to another enemy? Thanks

The default attack logic takes into account many factors with one of them being imminence, meaning enemy monsters that are closest to attacking you are attacked first. The game currently supports the ability to augment this logic with its targeting system. Simply tap on any enemy monster to direct all of your attack power in that direction until the enemy is defeated. This is often most useful when facing enemies with high defensive stats, like material monsters.

The costs for the legend and hero gates are extremely high. Charging 40 - 50 dollars is out of reach for many players. I think most people wouldn’t mind paying 15 - 20 dollars. Any plans to lower the costs for these gates?

So far, the Legend and Hero Gates have featured special monsters that only appeared in previous events as exclusive prizes for top ranking players or as appearing in the Event Bundle Gates. Toss in the other bundled prizes that these gates award, such as Box Space, Spells of Capture, Super Moths, etc, not to mention the time and effort required to level final form monsters to level 60, and we feel the pricing is reasonable. Our goal for these Gates is to provide a “catch up” opportunity for new players who missed out on past events, so they can become competitive in current and future events even if they didn’t start playing Monster Match on day one.

That said, we know not everyone has $40 and $50 to spend on entertainment and we are always developing new ways to cater to different price points. In fact, we’re currently revamping the Premium Gate for a future release, where the initial purchase price is lower but grows back up to its current price with repeat purchases. Additionally, we’re adding a new popup between the Summon screen and the point of purchase, allowing players to get more information about which types of monsters can be summoned before they commit to spending money.

So, will the price of the Legend and Hero Gates drop? The answer is no, not in their current configuration. But if you’re asking, “Will I be able to obtain other monsters through more inexpensive means in the near future?” Then the answer is YES.

image

Will you guys be able to make a trading & messaging option ingame so we can trade monsters with friends for ones we’re looking for and to complete the monster catalogue as well as chatting with each other and plan trading ideas if we get a monster the other wants or needs?

Trading seems to be a polarizing feature request from our fans. On one hand, it would be nice to share your duplicate monsters with friends but on the other hand it just encourages players to make extra accounts or exploit promotional campaigns with our shared currency across Mobage games. We are still contemplating it but expect a gifting feature to be released before trading.

Regarding messaging, the team does not have plans to build our own messaging system but you can always utilize the Mobage platform to message other players, accessible by tapping on the Mobage icon in the upper right corner of the game screen. Beyond that, most game discussion appears to take place publicly on our Facebook page, wiki site and even through Line messenger chats:

Q&A with Lead Artist from G.I. JOE: Battleground

Are you a fan of the G.I. Joe franchise? If you have nostalgic memories of playing with the action figures as a child or if you play mobile games now, please enjoy this exclusive Q&A with Zhen Pan, the Lead Artist behind G.I. Joe: Battleground

image

Q: How long have you been creating art professionally? How did you get started?

A: I have been creating art professionally for one year. I started when I was hired for the G.I. JOE: BATTLEGROUND title as a concept artist. I was responsible for UI assets, Character Card Design and Animation and presently I continue overseeing those areas of G.I.JOE art and more as the title’s Lead Artist.

Q: Why video games? When did you first discover your passion/talent for this type of art?

A: Video games have long been a major influence and inspiration going back to my childhood. My earliest drawings back then were actually the by-product of playing video games like Doom and Fallout! I remember back in high school I would spend my spare time sketching concepts for creatures that I imagined I would play with and against in games. That’s probably when I pictured myself working in the games industry.

image

Q: Which video game(s) has/have the most impressive art in your opinion?

A: As far as I can recall, I was most impressed when I first played Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) and Journey (PSN) because I believe that art in video games is not all about realistic or fancy graphics, but a visual experience that can effectively provoke your feelings as intended.

Q: Tell us about the most gratifying art project that you ever worked on.

A: I have worked on this personal project called “Pregnant Predators” and despite the sensitive subject matter, I had the most fun experimenting different ideas/themes while attempting to back them up with stories.

image

Q: What can you tell us about your method? That is, how do you get from A (initial concept) to Z (final product)?

A: For G.I. JOE: BATTLEGROUND, the way we go from initial concept to final product is very specific as we base our character art on the actual action figures and then use supporting reference materials from the comics and cartoons. Our first step is that we research the characters and select the action figure version that we want to use. Then we proceed to design the character card art starting with character poses first and then the background sketches next. Once the final pencils for poses and backgrounds are completed, they go to coloring. And then the final step after coloring is the card animation design, which is where we design and execute a 4 frame animation to give life to our characters whether it is gunfire, explosions or vicious kicks!

Q: When did you first become a fan of G.I. JOE? Did you ever play with the action figures?

A: Actually, it was some time after I started working on the project that I became a fan. The more I learned about the G.I. JOE universe, the more entertained I became with all the characters and their vehicles with their colorful designs and stories. This brought back all that crazy nostalgia of the action figures from my childhood. I had a few of the G.I. JOE action figures when I was little and I remember that I had quite a bit of fun with them along with my Gundam and Lego despite the fact that I was not exposed to the cartoon series that much back in China.

image

Q: Who was your favorite G.I. JOE: Battleground character to illustrate and why?

A: Though I mainly focus on character design and animation of the cards, I would say that I enjoyed animating Croc Master the most simply because he wears a gas mask, he wields a whip and he has a pet crocodile called Lolita!

Dark Cybertron

image

Dark Cybertron, the Team Battle episode of TRANSFORMERS: Legends, has begun! Team Battle is a brand new type of episode, so check out the in-game help file from the episode page or pre-registration pop-up for more info.

Play TRANSFORMERS: Legends for iPhone or Android this week to get a free comic and exclusive offers on Dark Cybertron action figures. Don’t forget to participate in Dark Cybertron giveaways on the Mobage Facebook page to win free MOBACOIN or an Armada Starscream action figure!

Story-line:

There is an ancient Cybertronian prophecy discovered by Autobot Scoops claiming that one Transformer will either bring Cybertron into a new Golden Age or lead her to her ultimate doom. Scoops believes the prophesized hero to be the former Decepticon and newly elected leader of the planet—Starscream. But Starscream himself isn’t convinced yet.

Meanwhile, the Autobot formerly known as Optimus Prime travels the galaxy under his original name—Orion Pax, as he investigates a growing galactic anomaly that will lead him and his comrades into battle against an army from a parallel dimension, a perversion of our own reality—a place the Transformers have named “The Dead Universe.”

Orion’s investigations lead his team to an unknown planet where they discover a previously unknown sub-race of Transformers, called “minicons” due to their comparatively small size. On this planet, three Minicons—Heavytread, Windshear, and Runway—take up arms and cast themselves headlong into the battles surrounding this most ancient prophecy. What role they play in the final acts of this story remains a mystery.

Meanwhile, on Cybertron itself, A “Titan” class Transformer mysteriously appears using its own space bridge technology. Both Autobot and Decepticon forces surround the seemingly sleeping, city-sized, giant. But when Starscream, Bumblebee, Skywarp and the rest attempt contact with the sleeping Titan, it suddenly, and powerfully erupts with an energy surge, destroying much of the nearby capital city of Iacon. And only now, do they realize that the Titan isn’t sleeping and it isn’t dead. Gathering their fallen forces, Starscream and the rest detect a new energy signature from the titan that perfectly matches readings consistent with those in the Dead Universe. No longer is the Titan sleeping, no longer is it dead, it is something… else. It has become a Necrotitan!

With the mysteries beginning to intertwine, it’s up to the various teams of Autobots and Decepticons to battle their way to both the meaning behind these coiled mysteries and ultimately to victory over an enemy, that has not yet been fully revealed!
